Get to Know Bennett
Summer 2023 | Interview by Emilia Charno
Bennett Capozzi is a master’s student in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at MIT, focusing on the relationship between transportation, technology, and urban design.
What are you focusing on studying in school?
My studies focus on the intersection between transportation and land use planning. I am interested in the ways that sustainable transportation systems can help enable affordable, diverse, and fun cities. I'm particularly interested in the way that contemporary technology and design can help us understand these questions in new and exciting ways.
What are you working on at Kyanite Partners?
This summer, I've been working on two projects: a community-led redevelopment proposal for the Kingsbridge Armory in the Bronx and accessing Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund opportunities for worker co-operatives.
What are the values that drive your work?
The twin crises of climate change and urban unaffordability urgently require radical creative solutions. However, these solutions must be ethically grounded and community-validated to make meaningful impact.
What are the places that have deeply shaped you?
The Prospect Park Long Meadow, 67th Street Beach in Far Rockaway, the Gowanus L Train Vintage, and Frankies 457 Spuntino.
What is something not many people know about you?
Carly Rae Jepsen has been my top Spotify artist for the past 3 years running.
Is there anything that you’re reading or watching that’s inspiring you?
"The Invention of Brownstone Brooklyn" by Suleiman Osman, "The Granite Garden" by Anne Whiston Spirn, and the "Nice White Parents" podcast.
